Werk 21

Last night our Pir came from the mosque to the tavern.
What is our policy from now on, O fellows of the Path?
We also must lodge in the Magians’ tavern.
Thus was our destiny set in the beginning of time.
How can we disciples face the Ka’ba
While our Pir has his face toward the tavern?
If the wise knew how rapt my heart is in the bond of his tress,
They would become mad after my chain.
Your beautiful face revealed a verse of grace to me.
Hence, nothing but kindness and goodness is in my commentary.
Will the flames of my nocturnal laments and fiery sighs
Ever have any effect some night on your stony heart?
Silence, Hafes! My sigh’s arrow passes beyond the sky.
Have mercy on your soul; stay away from this arrow!
