Sâqi, brighten my cup with the light of wine.
Minstrel, sing, for the world is now as I desired.
O unaware of the pleasure of my wine drinking,
I have seen my beloved›s face reflected in the wineglass.
The upright fair ones display so much coquetry and charm
That my elegant cypress comes to show his beauty.
Never dies the one whose heart was revived with love.
My immortality is registered in the journal of the world.
On the Day of Judgment, the Shaykh‘s legitimate bread
May not prove to be any better than my illegitimate water.
Drunkenness suits well the eyes of my charming beloved.
Hence my destiny is committed to the hand of a drunkard.
O wind, if you ever visit the lovers› rose garden,
Remember to convey my message to my beloved.
Tell him: «Why do you intentionally forget my name?
Even if you try to forget, it will come to you by itself.”
Hafes, let a teardrop fall from your eye,
So that the bird of union may start flying to your net.
The blessings of our Hâji Qavam have filled up
The sky’s green ocean and the crescent moon’s vessel.
